Expand your understanding of Te Reo Maaori and Tikanga Maaori and develop you knowledge of Maaori somsology, history and culture.

Te Ao Maaori (MAO)

Year 9 Maaori is aimed at building the students’ confidence to use basic sentence structures which will explore kaupapa such as kai, whanau, waiata, marae, te kura and tikanga Maaori. Selected this course gives the students an opportunity to learn more about the Maaori culture and have a better understand of Te Reo Maaori.

Te Reo Maaori/Performing Arts (MAO): 

This is a lively course which focuses on speaking and listening skills in Te Reo, with opportunities to further develop reading and writing ability.  A full range of modern approaches to language acquisition will be included.  Students also have the opportunity to gain an understanding of Maori Performing Arts. Kapa Haka and Mau Raakau are also key components where students will further develop knowledge and skills of the following disciplines: Waiata, Waiata-a-Ringa, Whakaraka, Mau Rakau, and Poi.
