News & Notices 23rd February

All Year 13's are to meet Mr van Dyk, L1 in the hall please.

 

Remember Photolife are at School today, Thursday 23rd February. Please go to the hall when directed by your teacher.

 

Could the following students please see Mrs Booker in the ESOL room D7 in Lunch 1 today: Joe Lokate, Thar Shar, Seenal Sivangni, Ahmed Farah and Ploy Tongthab

 

Kia hiwara, kia hiwara. Calling all students who are interested and keen to do kapa haka this year for the school. There is practice scheduled today, Thursday, 23rd of February, after school 3.30pm – 5.30pm down at the school marae. This will be the first practice for the year, so show your commitment and attend the practice as there are some big and significant events where we will be performing and competing. Nau mai, haere mai!

 

Interested in making and watching movies? Media Club is starting up here. First meeting is going to be Lunch 1 on Thursday, at F11 – see you then!

MUSIC

Students, who have put their name down for instrument lessons, need to check the board in the Music Block, to see your time. If your name is not there, you will be on the waiting list, as we have to get music students in first. No Guitar lessons this week because of Athletics Day.

 

Any students who play any string, woodwind or brass instruments outside of school, can you please come and talk to Mr. Kelly in the Music Block sometime to do with any small group we could get going.

PATHWAYS

Presentations and Events:

Thursday 15th March: University of Otago, 9.30am in the Pathways Centre

Wednesday 4th April: University of Waikato, 11.30am in the Pathways Centre

 

Save the Children: This organisation is seeking applications from youth under 18 to become volunteer Regional Representatives for its Child and Youth Council. To find out more, please see Mrs Rae-Middleton.

 

Gateway: Any Year 12 or 13 students interested in a career in nursing or any other area in the medical field (including a doctor) and would like to do a Gateway work experience at Waikato Hospital, please register your name with Mrs Cosgrove in G4.

 

 

 

Gateway Wintec Hospitality Programme: Two Gateway courses are available for Year 12 and 13 senior students, beginning Term 2, every Monday for 8 weeks. Cafe Cookery Skills involves practical work in the Wintec restaurant kitchen and Food and Beverage Skills involves work in the Wintec restaurant. You can gain up to 11 credits towards Levels 2 and 3 NCEA. There is no cost. For more information see Mrs Cosgrove in G4.

 

STAR Taster Courses:  Taster courses give students the opportunity to attend WINTEC for one or two days and find out what would be involved in full time training in a wide variety of careers.  STAR Taster courses are open to year 10, 11, 12 or 13 students. There is no charge.  Pick up an information booklet and permission form from Mrs Cosgrove in G4 or the Student Service Centre. 

 

SPORTS

SPORTS UNIFORMS: If you have any outstanding sports uniforms, please return them to Miss Vincent (in the gym) ASAP. A small chocolate bar may be waiting for you.

 

JUNIOR BEACH VOLLEYBALL: Any juniors interested in competing in beach volleyball champs please see Miss Vincent to sign up - Teams of four.

 

GOLF All students who have played golf before and would like to play in a competition after school during Term 1.  Meet in E7 lunch 1.  You do not need a handicap to play.  CLA

 

BOYS CRICKET: Draw is up in SSC and the GYM. Please all attend a meeting Friday Lunch 1 in the gym to organise this Saturdays games. Miss Vincent

 

WHEELCHAIR BASKETBALL: If you are interested in playing in this one day tournament please see the flyers in the gym. Everyone can give it a go.

 

STUDENT SERVICE CENTRE INFORMATION (Mrs Tarrant)

TRIP GOING OUT:   

Y13 SPL Camp at Te Kauri Lodge – Kawhia – next week Wed-Fri – 29th Feb to Fri-2nd March - $75forms and money to the SSC before Friday, 24 February.

 

Y11 Geography Trip to Waihi – on Wednesday, 7th March – $40 - forms and money to the SSC before Friday, 2nd March.

 

WORKBOOKS:

Y11/12/13 Geography books have arrived.  For those students who did not get one with your class, please come and get one at the SSC.

 

Y9 and Year 10 Maths Books have arrived.  TEACHERS WILL BRING CLASSES ACROSS TO GET BOOKS.

 

ID CARDS – Photos will be taken for ALL STUDENTS TODAY.  ID cards for Year 9 students only will be sent home with their accounts.  All other students please wait and there will be more information in the News and Notices later this month.

 

STATIONERY LISTS - ALL STATIONERY LISTS FOR ALL YEAR LEVELS ARE ON THE TABLES IN THE STUDENT SERVICE CENTRE – please come and collect one.

 

WEIGHT ROOM 2012 – Senior Students Only - If you want to use the weight room before school or after school, please get a form from the SSC, fill it out and return the form back to the SSC with payment.  NO STUDENTS SHOULD BE IN THE WEIGHT ROOM WITHOUT PUTTING IN THEIR FORM AND PAYING!

 

SURFING 2012 - Any students interested in surfing out at Raglan on Thursday after school, need to fill out a surfing form and return it to the SSC.
